About the Author
Giorgio Kolaj
His parents escaped from the former Yugoslavia and into Italy, where Giorgio was born in Rome. After his father’s untimely death, he emigrated to the United States with his mother and four siblings in 1970. Having settled in the South Bronx, Giorgio had a highly fulfilling and typical life as a city kid. Later, he went on to graduate from college with a degree in computer science, and worked at IBM for a decade and then at a software startup company which grew with global offices throughout the U.S., Israel, and Europe.
Along with his siblings, Giorgio also helped launch and grow a restaurant brand into a global chain with more than 180 openings throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, Ecuador, Ghana, United Arab Emirates, and Kosovo.
Giorgio has appeared on national and international television networks, including MSNBC, FOX Business, CNBC, CNN, and many others. He is the recipient of several industry and humanitarian awards including Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year, American Dream Award, Good Scout Award, Top 40 Under 40, and more. Giorgio is often invited to speak at business functions and industry events, and his story has been featured in several publications, including Little America (the book that inspired the Apple Original series).
In addition to flying for work, Giorgio also enjoys traveling extensively for pleasure. His other hobbies include oil painting, aviation, writing, reading, nature walks, animal rescue, and volunteering. Giorgio is a board member of D.A.R.E. America and has served on numerous other boards over the years. He is a proud father and lives in Westchester County, NY. Giorgio is a reformed fearful flier, and you can be too!
